Cholesterol Lowering – A New January Signing

January 7, 2016 by Clinical Pharmacist 10 Comments

January in sporting terms is dominated in these parts of Western Europe by the much debated “January Transfer Market” in the English Premiership. Teams sign new players to boost their chances of success at the mid-point of their season. How does this relate to a pharmacy blog you might think? We have our own January superstar arriving this week! It even sounds like the name of a deadly striker poised to rake in the goals (pun shamelessly intended).

What might your goals be? Lose weight, get healthier, or even lower your cholesterol? If the latter is your goal of choice then boy do we have the tool for you to reach those goals! Let me introduce Armolipid Plus:

Meda ArmoLipid Box TEMP

I first came across Armolipid Plus a few months ago. Usually when these new products are being launched Over the Counter my skeptical hat is glued to my head. I can’t stand someone telling me something is more effective than x, y or z and their so called “evidence” shows that. I want the hard core facts.

  1. What does it do?
  2. How does it do it?
  3. Have you any scientific proof?
    • Scientific proof is not as simple as my aunties dog had a pup who heard it from a cat whose owner took it for a year and turned into Brad Pitt

The Scientific proof is usually where these things fall down. I  have no problem admitting it, most of the stuff people look for over the counter, be it vitamins or supplements are more likely to fail than succeed. This is why I am usually so skeptical. Armolipid Plus is the exception to the rule. When I asked for scientific proof I wasn’t fobbed off with a trial that showed that 4 healthy people didn’t die after taking it for six months. I was asked to come along to a presentation where the evidence and data would all be put on the table. Let each man and woman decide for themselves!

I drove the long, straight monotonous road to Dublin, swung a left in the direction of Dunboyne Co.Meath to the big presentation, fully expecting a journey in vain. I was almost like Jim Carrey in the Grinch; green, grumpy and groggy! It’s a damn long road!

What I witnessed for the next 3 hours changed my perception, not just on the ability to manage difficult cholesterol levels OTC, but also the opportunity for people to reduce their risk of heart disease using something that isn’t just affordable and effective, but as the Italian Cardiologist described it: a “neutraceutical”.

What is a neutraceutical you ask? Well quite simply it is something that has a beneficial health effect that is composed purely of naturally occurring products. So if you have a gripe with chemicals, big pharma, science or you are into herbal and natural remedies, this is right up your alley too! So to all the people who I fall out with because most naturally occurring remedies don’t have sufficient evidence – WE FINALLY HAVE A COMMON GROUND!

So what about this evidence? Does it stand up?

The trials that Armolipid Plus has taken part in are published by the European Society of Cardiology. (It is just as impressive as it sounds) Trials out there show Armolipid Plus is more effective than:

  • Diet alone
  • Exercise alone

Trials also show that Armolipid Plus is as effective as:

  • Low intensity statin treatment
  • Ezitimibe (for patients intolerant of statins)

So lets finish off by giving you a simple table outlining what Armolipid can do for you:

Armolipid Plus Properties

Effect on Total Cholesterol (TC):

18% Reduction

Positive Outcome

Effect on HDL (Good Cholesterol):

11% Increase

Positive Outcome

Effect on Triglycerides:

17% Reduction

Positive Outcome

Effect on LDL (Bad Cholesterol):

23% Reduction

Positive Outcome

Effect on Blood Flow:

Increase in Flow Mediated Dilation

Positive Outcome

The last point goes to show that in just 6 weeks Armolipid Plus not only improves cholesterol but the stiffness in your arteries! (aka blood pressure) All of this and a months supply is less than €20, the price of 4 pints; depending on where you get your pints!

This table proves that the product is a great all rounder! So I challenge you all to take on the Armolipid Plus challenge. If you have recent cholesterol results that need improving bring them into us and we will talk! If you need a cholesterol test and want to see if Armolipid Plus will be beneficial to you then come into PFP Douglas and get checked!

Oh…and by the way! I have dropped the price of a cholesterol test! Get a full breakdown and assessment now for just €15!!!

      Hi Vina,

Armolipid PLUS is a good alternative for those intolerant to statins. The Ezetrol blocks absorption of the cholesterol from the intestine but as much of our cholesterol is made from the liver you cholesterol is still that bit high. Armolipid could help reduce your cholesterol for you when used with the Ezetrol.

      Hi Angela,
The gastrointestinal disorder and the muscular pain are two separate warnings. Dyspepsia (which may include heartburn, nausea, flatulence and stomach pain) is a rare but listed side effect of Armolipid PLUS. If you already suffer from some or all of these symptoms use of Armolipid PLUS potentially could worsen these effects. I would suggest, as the incidence of this side effect is extremely low (5 in 1000), that you try the Armolipid PLUS for a trial period. If you feel you are getting any heartburn or stomach discomfort then stop taking it.
      Regards,

Hi Siobhan. Armolipid Plus can be taken at any time of the day. It is best to be taken around the same time everyday.
